Do you know there is an ant who can close his home's entrance with his flattened head as the door?
According to the news, these ants are called Door Head Ant. These flattened head ants are actually soldier ants whose head is as big as the gate of their territory.
There are two types of ants, one of which is the Cephalotes or turtle ant, which has a round, dome-shaped, and slightly larger head, and is usually as big as a door.
The door head ants endanger themselves because this door of their anthills (nest) entices other invading insects as well.
The most amazing thing is that their cap-shaped heads are exactly like the doorposts that have evolved over millions of years.
The second type of turtle ant is also noteworthy, with a slightly conical protrusion on its head, which sticks to the anthills (nest) and closes the door. It should be noted that the whirlpools that make holes in the branches of the tree after a while go away from there and it becomes the home of ants where the whole colony starts living.
Ants make deep tunnels inside. At this point, the covering ant closes the door at night and thus protects the invading insects and animals. It's a very nonviolent way of protecting yourself, according to University of Louisville's professor Steve Janowicz.
These types of ants do not have stings and cannot defend themselves. Then they don't even have soldier ants. But don't think that ants with doors aren't always there. When ants feel threatened, they close the door on their heads.
