What Exactly Is The Moon?
Before discussing what if our earth had two moons, we should know about the moon's definition.
The moon is a natural satellite of our earth, 240,000 miles from Earth. Its diameter is 2163 miles. Galileo Galilei did the first research about the moon in 1609. He said that the moon is a sphere like our Earth. There is no air or water in it. Because of the absence, there are no signs of life on the moon. This has been proven by manned aircraft. It is very hot during the day and cold at night. This difference occurs within an hour.
The day of the moon is equal to our fifteen days. It completes one revolution around the earth in 29 or 30 days. The moon's orbit is increasing around the earth, i.e. the average distance is increasing from the earth. The lunar and Islamic months are formed by their rising and setting. The moon not only gives us a little light at night, but its gravity also creates tides in the ocean. From the soil brought there, scientists have concluded that the moon's geology is much simpler than the earth's geology. Also, the moon's crust is about a mile thick. It is a rare rock formed from the anorthosite.
Every human being has grown up looking at the moon in the sky. Our neighboring planet Mars has two moons.
If there was another moon as big as our moon and as far away as ours, which would have the same rotation speed as the first moon, its first effect would be on the sea. As we know, tidal waves are caused by the gravity of the moon and the sun, called tides or tidal waves, but if there is another moon, the height of these waves will be eight times higher. Such high waves would cause a terrible tsunami. Its gravity will cause earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and rain of chemicals that will wipe out many creatures from the world.
But What If Life Still Survives?
As most animals hunt at night, the two moons will be dazzling, making it easier for predators to hunt.
Cities on the beach, like New York, Karachi, Dubai, Muscat, etc., will all be wiped out because of high tides. Many marine animals make their way to the sea because of the moon, so having two moons and being the same size will confuse the sea creatures. Those sea creatures will move to new places, which will negatively impact the ecosystem.
There Are Two Chances Of Having Two Moons
One chance is due to the presence of two moons; the angular momentum of the earth will change drastically, due to which both the moons will slowly collide with the earth and wipe out life from the earth.
The second change is that instead of splitting from the Earth, they will collide to form a big moon, and because of this collision, their broken pieces will start falling on the Earth, ensuring the end of life from the Earth.
